The German actress plays an airline pilot married to Mathieu Kasowitz, who loses control of her life and her “visions” when she moves on from a past passion. A feature written by Ian Gozlan that continues his exploration of the aerial world after success Black box.

Estelle (Diana Krueger) is a certified airline pilot with a precise life. Between two flights and a review of control procedures, she returns to her modern villa near Bandol and her comfortable life with her overprotective husband Guillaume (Mathieu Kassovitz). But this routine will be disrupted when he meets again the magnetic Ana (Marta Nieto), a photographer with whom he had a passionate affair twenty years ago. Reconnecting with him, Estelle plunges into a troubled universe, from which it becomes difficult to unravel the threads of true and false, probable and possible.

Immersive thriller

Diane Kruger succeeds here as Pierre Nin, the hero Black box, Ian Gozlan’s previous film. She is, like him, an elusive heroine, haunted by her doubts and her visions. The controlled staging, accompanied by gorgeous photography, offers an immersive and captivating journey into Estelle’s psyche and sensations. We follow Diane Kruger’s every move, in almost every shot, who mesmerizes with her precision and her fragility without the viewer ever knowing if she can be trusted.

The German actress, who splits her career between France and the US, has given herself body and soul to reunite with French cinema. “I was really looking for a good role for my return to France because I had my daughter, then Covid happened and it had been 4 years since I could film there,” she told AFP. It’s done with this sly thriller fueled by David Lynch references (a duo of brunette and blonde lovers, winding roads as Mulholland Drive), and Hitchcock (Estelle’s Buns, music by Philip Romby). As in Black boxPart of the investigation through Estelle’s memory and memories is done by listening, by sounds. With this fifth feature film, his self-confessed “most personal,” Yann Gozlan plays on his obsession with control to create this French thriller.
