The tape is one of the most expensive Ukrainian films – the budget is UAH 120 million, 65 of which is allocated from the state budget. Production on the film took approximately 10 years, and filming began in August 2018.
The Ukrainian historical film Dovbush directed by Oles Sanin earned 8.7 million hryvnias at the box office for the first weekend. This was reported by Forbes with reference to Film.ua Group.
In the first four days of the show, around 60,000 tickets were sold.
According to the plot, the events took place in the Carpathians at the beginning of the 18th century. Due to the brutal rule of the Polish gentry, the Hutsuls fled to the mountains. Two brothers, Oleksa and Ivan Dovbushy, find themselves outlaws and become oprichki. The Hutsuls started a revolt led by Oleksa. The nobility is doing everything to destroy Dovbush. But he manages to overcome them.
For comparison, in 2014, Sanina Povodir’s tape got 94,754 viewers near the big screens in the first weekend.
