Pierre Niney. “I too have experienced storms under my head”

On screen, he plays the double of a director who, in the grips of depression, takes refuge with his team in his aunt’s house in Seven, trying to finish his latest film and fill his inner abyss. In keeping with the director he admires and who directs him, Pierre Nini plays an inventive and whimsical score.

My state of mind?
I feel lucky and honored to have worked with a director I adore. The Eternal Sun of the Immaculate Mind it was such a slap in the face to me. I am fascinated by Michel Gondry’s poetry, his creativity, great freedom, politeness of despair.

My character?
I play a director in the middle of a manic-depressive episode, Michelle’s experience, who has enough perspective to take it with humor. This film is a pilgrimage into his life and his imagination, shot in his aunt’s house, where he took refuge when he went mad.

Shooting secret.
The whole house was filled with markers, paper, paint, scotch tape, everything that Michelle used to build her world. He even taught me to draw little things for the animation sequences of the film.

What connects me to Michel Gondry?
His taste for fantasy and his connection to childhood. I grew up with a mother who was a visual arts teacher, and at home there was also a desire to give substance to our most extreme ideas. Like Michelle, I’m an artist and I know storms off the top of my head… We both hate talking about rain and good weather. We prefer to ask absurd questions, both metaphysical and completely “playground”.

“I try to avoid wooden tongue”

Is the language of the stick or the language too loose in the interview?
I try to avoid jargon because when I’m in the reader’s position, I notice it very quickly and it bothers me.

I lie in an interview.
When something goes wrong with someone on set, I don’t throw it out in the press… but I avoid it by emphasizing the points I see as positive.

The questions I fear.
About my family or certain political entities. When you’re an actor, the cursor is sometimes hard to place. for filmmakers and the public to project things onto me, I have to remain a sort of blank page, but I’m also a citizen, sometimes willing to stand up for causes close to his heart.

Questions that make me angry.
Those that create the impression that the interlocutor has not watched the movie.

I’ve been the “ideal groom” for a long time, but I want to be able to play everything, including what is dark in a person, what scares us and makes us unhappy.

Is the best movie always the last?
If you ask me, in a year or twenty, if I like Michelle’s film, it will always be a big yes. Michelle is a genius who will always have a special place for me.

Is there a misunderstanding about me?
I read it less and less, but for a long time I was the “ideal son-in-law”, which classified me a little too much. However, I want to play everything, including that which is dark in man, which terrifies and makes us uncomfortable.

An opinion that made me happy.
There were two of them. About Yves Saint Laurent. The first came from Michelle Bouquet and the second from Julianne Moore, an actress I admire more than anything.

What am I going to do after this interview?
Eat a salad and avocado, for goodness sake, and finish with pizza. But above all rest because I’m in the middle of filming The Count of Monte Cristo.
