David Ayer is the filmmaker behind ‘Suicide Squad’, a film released in 2016
‘Suicide Squad’ will win a version of David Ayer? According to the director, yes! Seven years after its release, the filmmaker told through his official twitter account that the current head of the DCU, James Gunnhad confirmed to him that fans might get a chance to see the cut performed by him at some point.
The statement came after a user of the social network questioned why he continues to promote the feature film almost a decade after the film was released in theaters. Therefore, Ayer began his explanation by revealing that the 2016 film didn’t turn out the way he envisioned:
What would be your advice for dealing with my situation? There is curiosity and genuine interest from some people to know more about my version of the film. And I’m very aware that there’s also a group of people who like to make fun of Suicide Squad.” Have you ever had an experience in your life that didn’t go the way you wanted it to, and it brought you down, made you rethink everything? already.”
Soon after, the filmmaker said that there is the “director’s cut”, that is, a version of the film that was actually idealized by him. This type of cut usually does not have as its main focus the return at the box office, for this reason, it tends to have more daring elements and a greater depth of the characters, which also makes the film longer in length.
Therefore, Ayer further revealed that Gunn is interested in releasing this version of the film, and that in its view, the result “is much better than the studio release”.
The interest in showing my cut feels real and organic. And Gunn told me that the time would come for it to be shared. He absolutely deserves to launch his DC universe without any more drama about old projects,” he revealed. “In a way, I’m chained to this movie, and I’m navigating the situation as best I can.”
