The live-action of the children’s program “Barney and Friends” promises to be very different from what many imagine. In an interview with The New Yorker (via Omelete), the executive producer of the feature, Kevin McKeonstated that the film will address “millennial angst”, and will not be a production for children.
“We’re leaning more into the millennial angst of intellectual property rather than doing something for the kids. It really is a project for adults,” said McKeon.
kevin He completed his speech by stating that “[O filme] it will focus on some of the trials and tribulations of being in your early thirties, growing up with Barney—just the level of disenchantment within the generation. (…) It will be very bold of us and really emphasize that we are here to make art.”.
“Barney and Friends” was originally broadcast on PBS Kids, being a huge success in the 90s and 2000s. The children’s series that followed a big purple dinosaur was also responsible for revealing big stars, such as Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez It is Debby Ryan.
The actor Daniel Kaluuya will be responsible for bringing Barney to life in the new feature, in addition to also signing the production. In 2019, the actor revealed that he decided to participate in the project, as “Barney was a ubiquitous figure in the childhood of many of us, but then he disappeared into the shadows, misunderstood”. The film does not yet have a release date.
