Last Wednesday, the 29th, Olivia Rodrigo released the teaser for “Vampire”, the lead single from “Guts”, the singer’s second album that should be released on September 8th. In the short scenes, it is possible to see the artist lying on the grass in the light of the moon. Look!
The preview of just over 10 seconds, gained prominence not only for providing a small spoiler of the melody and visuals of the MV of the new song by the owner of the hits “good 4 u”, “Deja Vu” and “Drivers License”, but also for having possible references to the Twilight saga.
How does “Vampire”, Olivia Rodrigo’s new single, relate to “Twilight”?
The first indications that there was something that connected the literary saga of four titles written by Stephenie Meyerto the new song Oliviaappeared on June 13, when the singer released the official cover of the single through her official Instagram account, where she appears with a band-aid on her neck to cover a vampire bite.
The image post was commented on by Taylor Lautner, actor who gave life to Jacob in the films of the franchise. “Who bit you?!” he commented. Furthermore, the official account for “Twilight” also wrote, “I’ve been waiting for this day! Dreams really do come true.” Remember!
Leaving for the video preview, the first allusion can be noticed through the name of the track: “Vampire” (Vampire, in Portuguese), since the books and films of the saga address, mainly, the unlikely romance of the human Bella Swan and of the vampire Edward Cullen, characters who in the five adapted feature films came to life through the performance of Kristen Stewart It is Robert Pattinson.
But, couldn’t the title allude to other productions in which the bloodsuckers are the protagonists or an important part of the plot? Yes! However, the release date of the single leaves the possible mention of the mysterious work that addresses the emergence of love in the midst of different realities, clearer. That’s because the song hits streaming platforms on June 30, the same day that, in 2010, the third film in the saga, “Eclipse”, was released.
In addition to bringing the name of one of the main supernatural creatures in the saga, the teaser scenes speak for themselves. As reviewed by Twitter user @nrshameless, the preview footage largely resembles frames from the film franchise. Check out the comparison!
please note that Olivia never hid how much he is a fan of the franchise. The artist even composed a song called “twilight” (name of the saga, in English), which despite not having been officially released, had a snippet sung by Rodrigo in a video. Look!
With themed parties, printed T-shirts, personalized accessories and even the revelation that pattinson was his first crush, the thread created by the user @rpattzkjstew on Twitter shows more about Rodrigo’s passion for the saga.
