The Brazilian photographer will receive the award for her entire career. It will be presented to him on July 4 by Kering and Rencontres d’Arles.
For the fifth year, Kering and Rencontres d’Arles join forces to support women’s photographic creativity. And this year, Brazilian artist Rosangela Renno’s name has been added to a very fine panel of winners, including Susan Meiselas, Sabina Weiss, Liz Johnson Arthur and Babette Mangolte. Born in 1962 in Belo Horizonte, lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. Throughout her career, Rosangela Reno has questioned the boundaries of official memory. For this, it makes visible unexploited archives (flea markets, photos on the Internet, archives or “dead files”) that offer a very pure picture of reality, an alternative iconography. Erasure, manipulation, amnesia…, in his work he denies the problems related to memory, which become decisive in the history of the people. Along with his photography, he creates videos and artist books.

The award will be presented to him on Tuesday, July 4, at the Théâtre d’Antique in Arles, and will be accompanied by a donation of €25,000 to acquire his works for the Rencontres collection. And for the first time in France, a monograph exhibition supported by Women in Motion will be dedicated to her at La Mécanique générale in Arles. Committed to its mission, Kering has just renewed its support for Rencontres as a major partner for five years. An assignment that presents a message of hope for women’s photography.
