As the leader of the Cullen clan, Carlisle was born in 1640 in London, England, the son of legendary witch hunter Vincent Price. Growing up, as reflected by the ScreenRant portal, the man did not have much choice about his choice of work, and ended up taking on his father’s profession of hunting “paranormal beings”, including witches, vampires and other creatures.
However, unlike the patriarch, Carlisle always sought to avoid torture and murder of innocent people – something Vincent did not agree with. One day, the young man discovered a clan of vampires who lived in the London sewers and, when he tried to attack them, he ended up being bitten and transformed in the year 1663.
Upon waking up as a newborn, the new vampire would have woken up with an overwhelming thirst for human blood. However, unlike the others of his new species, Cullen would have shown enormous self-control and refused to feed on the blood of humans. According to ScreenRant, Carlisle preferred to starve to death, as he was unable to accept the monster he would have become.
For a long time, the young man tortured himself and tried to take his own life, but all unsuccessfully – after all, he was now an immortal being. However, he ended up finding a solution when he discovered that feeding on the blood of animals would also satisfy his hunger, a habit that was passed on to his own clan hundreds of years later.
Connection with the Volturi
In the year 1700, after fleeing England, Carlisle arrives in Italy where, for a time, he was involved with the Volturi clan, described in the works of “Twilight”, written by the author. Stephenie Meyeras a kind of vampire “royalty”.
Despite considering Cullen as good company, his “vegetarianism” went against the Volturi’s hunting of humans, in addition to the two parties having completely different worldviews. In this way, both parted amicably – at least until the events presented in the future in the franchise.
Formation of the Cullen clan
After separating from the Volturi, Carlisle moved to America, where he became a doctor, without settling in any city so as not to create deep relationships with mortals. In the year 1918, while still alone, he found a 17-year-old boy named Edward, about to die of the Spanish flu.
The doctor realized that it would be impossible to save him with conventional medicine, decided to turn him into a vampire and help him throughout the transformation process, making him the first member of the clan.

Years later, in 1921, Carlisle would find another member of the coven in a very similar situation: Esme, his future wife. The woman, who was 26 at the time, was hospitalized after trying to take her own life after losing her newborn son to a lung infection.

The man saves her by turning her into a vampire, and eventually the two end up falling in love. To make the disguise even more convincing, they decide that they would impersonate a family, where Edward is the couple’s adopted son.
Years later, the Cullens gained new members: Alice, Emmett, Jasper, Rosalie and, finally, Bella, who joined the clan after falling in love with Edward and almost dying giving birth to his daughter half human and half vampire Renesmee, where she was transformed by her own beloved to stay alive.
