The bizarre conspiracy theory that may have inspired Stranger Things

Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 episodes are now available on Netflix

Season 4 of Stranger Things is upon us! The new plot takes place six months after the Battle of Starcourt where, for the first time, the famous group of friends are separated and very vulnerable. It is at this very moment that an even more terrible new supernatural creature appears, which brings a great mystery that may be the key to ending the horrors of the Upside Down.

Being one of the biggest hits ever released by Netflix, the series created by the brothers duffer premiered in 2016, introducing the story of a young man who disappeared in the year 1983 and, during his search, his friends, family and the local police end up being drawn into a laboratory that conducts top-secret government experiments.

Conspiracy theory

As much as this whole story seems to be the result of the great imagination of duffer, The website Thrisllist released in 2016 a bizarre conspiracy theory that may have been responsible for inspiring the script for Stranger Things.

The story talks about an alleged secret project of the United States government called Montauk, which would have been implemented during the Cold War era, between the years 1947 to 1991, with the aim of creating new war techniques using psychological means, in addition to features that many still dream of, such as time travel and invisibility.

According to legend, all experiments were carried out through Camp Hero, at the Montauk Air Force, located on Long Island, where, supposedly, they would also have links with another secret American project, the Philadelphia Experiment, launched during World War II in the 1990s. 1940, and was intended to bypass the Nazi radar to be able to transport supplies to the Allies in Europe.

This theory would have emerged in the mid-1980s, and gained popularity after the author Preston Nichols release a series of books on the subject, detailing everything that would happen in the Montauk project, even stating that, for some psychic experiments, children would be kidnapped and tested in different situations.

Even without having any proof that the Montauk project really existed, the subject continues to draw the attention of many people around the world, who still tend to visit places that could serve as the basis for these bizarre government experiments.
