Today, the kitchen is both an elegant and refined place. A space that can also be personalized easily and cheaply. Update strong trends for 2023 with architect Camille Hermand.
Nothing scares Camille Hermand (1), architect DESA, graduate of the Special School of Architecture. Extensions, renovations, constructions… For 20 years he has been working on many projects: houses, apartments, lofts, workshops or private houses, always aiming to create unique places that resemble their owners. The kitchen is always at the center of all his projects. It’s an interesting piece to design. And if everyone projects their lifestyles there, some strong trends emerge. Camille Hermand, an astute observer, observes that now, thanks to the development of new offers and services, cooking to order is available to everyone. There is no longer a clan of “big names” and “luxury kitchen designers”. “Today, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money so that it becomes a practical, elegant piece with its own image,” he details. And it is around this idea that he revealed the 10 greatest wishes of the moment in the kitchen.
The umbrella in the light
The canopy makes its grand entrance into the kitchen. Agatha Tissier
“The open kitchen is always popular, but we’re seeing windows flourish. It is not so much a matter of division, as the canopy is often half-open, but of visually creating two spaces between the kitchen and the living room. Also, windows have evolved a lot. They are no longer systematically made of metal, in line with the industrial style, which is no longer on the rise. They can be made of wood, processed and thus become a real decorative element.
The famous nut
Dark wood is the star material of the moment. Agatha Tissier
“Wood is increasingly imitated for its warmth. More specifically, it is dark woods, and walnuts in particular, that are making remarkable strides in terms of storage and cabinets. »
Broken cabinets
Ikea boxes + custom facades = perfect equation. Agatha Tissier
“Customizing kitchens is now the order of the day. It’s good news. In the past, to have a custom kitchen, you had to go through the big kitchen designers. Now, thanks to concepts like Plum Living or Bokclip – there are more and more offers in this niche – you can have, without spending a lot of money, a customized kitchen. It is enough to use Ikea boxes and structures, which are very affordable, and equip them with often original fronts, accessories or handles, which are offered in a wide range of materials and colors, to create a unique arrangement. Obviously, for this customization step, I also call on artisans when the budget allows.”
Healthier work plans
Synthetic materials like stone meet growing hygiene needs. Agatha Tissier
“It is undoubtedly one of the consequences of COVID. We were traumatized by disinfecting everything that entered the kitchen. As a result, there is a growing demand for workstations made from easy-to-clean materials. Wood is increasingly discarded, but so is stone, which customers often find porous and messy. Therefore, they are synthetic materials with a stone effect that are valued.”
Jewelry lighting
We bring design to the kitchen with beautiful lighting. Agatha Tissier
“The lights dedicated to the kitchen have disappeared. We want lights that are not made for this room, but for the dining room or living room. They are more designer, more elegant and contribute to a comfortable, less technical atmosphere. This is what I call “gem lighting”. But to provide more targeted lighting, which is needed in the kitchen, we are working on flowing strips installed under the cabinets.
Wallpapers that show
Wallpaper is the new star of the kitchen. Agatha Tissier
“The wallpaper manufacturers finally understood that their products belong to the kitchen. Therefore, they develop many models that are as beautiful as other rooms and are resistant to moisture. The demand is there because here too it allows for personalization and elegance.”
With a touch of white
Eternal white and shades of colors. you will not get tired of your kitchen. Jennifer Sat
“White dominates in the kitchen. Customers want a visually long-lasting kitchen that they won’t tire of because it’s so anchored in trends. So white is the ideal option. But with a little twist. Then it’s all in the details, like a niche or a section of wall painted in a contrasting color.”
More beautiful faucets
Beautiful faucets are now kitchen essentials. Agatha Tissier
“For a long time, customers didn’t want to invest in sinks and faucets. This is no longer the case. The faucet is now the main style touch, and we even coordinate it with the drain; it’s a great way a pimp his kitchen. There is currently a big craze for brass fittings. This attention to detail is also seen in the kitchen switches; we will choose beautiful models, sometimes a little more expensive to give a sense of refinement. Brands realized that these elements were important, that there was a demand for more design, more sophistication. To me, the beautiful taps, the beautiful switch, it’s a little bit like a Chloé bag. We don’t have the means to afford a full outfit, but we do have fun accessorizing.
G major
We forget the tiles, we put the parquet. Agatha Tissier
“Our customers have less and less desire to tile their kitchens. They often want parquet as in the dining room. it creates continuity. These desires are supported by the work of manufacturers on the resistance of floors. They are stronger, treated against stains. no more worries when someone spills a glass of wine.
Stock return
The bench becomes mandatory. Agatha Tissier
“I’ve always loved banquets in the kitchen. But when I suggested it to my clients, he always answered me. “We are not in a ski flat.” In the long imagination, the bench essentially corresponded to the optimized furnishing of mountain resort chalets. Still, the bench is happy. And that’s it, we realize it. From now on, everyone wants it, it’s the revival of the bench in the spirit of the 70s. I think it will become inevitable, as the island is today.”
