Nishchuk plans to update the Shevchenko Committee by almost 100%

The new head of the Committee for the National Prize of Ukraine named Taras Shevchenko Yevgeny Nishchuk said that the composition of the Committee will be updated by almost 100%, writes Interfax-Ukraine.

“The first thing I need to do is to form an authoritative composition of the Committee, in which the cultural community will have confidence. It should be those people whose weight is significant,” said Nyshchuk at a press conference.

Nyshchuk added that some of the former Committee members who wrote resignation letters may be serving as experts. According to him, Committee members will have the opportunity to submit nominations for the appointment of experts.

Nishchuk needs 10-14 days to choose a new composition of the Committee, but he has already identified the main group of candidates for himself. He has not yet named them, but he assures that representatives of creative unions will also be included in the Committee, and that both age and gender criteria will be considered.

In addition, Nishchuk believes that an important nuance in the selection of candidates should be the physical presence in Ukraine.

According to Nishchuk, the former head of the Prize Committee, Yuri Makarov, promised support for the further work of this body.

Recall that this year, for the first time since 1962, on March 9, the winners of the Shevchenko National Prize were not announced, a corresponding presidential decree was published about it.

The next day, the chairman of the Shevchenko Committee Yuri Makarov announced that it was decided to supplement the list of nominations with an additional competition For Contribution to Victory and it was decided to announce the previously identified laureates and new ones together on May 22, and on March 11, the Committee announced the winners in the Literature, Journalism, Journalism, Literary Studies and Musicology and Cinematography nominations.

On March 12, Makarov resigned as chairman of the Shevchenko Committee, and on March 16, members of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize Committee of Ukraine announced their resignations.

On May 22, Evgeny Nishchuk was appointed head of the Committee.
