The new Biarritz Film Festival dedicated to young people opened its tempting program and sunny poster this Thursday in the presence of Ana Girardot.
The latest of the French film festivals, Nouvelles Vagues, celebrates youth and unveils its sunny banner. Initiated by Jérôme Pulis, the founding chairman of the RE7 agency, this special event will take place from June 28 to July 2 in Biarritz. The idea. “Youth is the theme: the age of opportunity, the moments in life that change everything, where the future is written. A place of meeting, a place of transmission, Nouvelles Vagues is a multi-artistic photograph of the young generation and its performances,” explains Sandrine Brauer, chief delegate of the festival, producer and co-founder of the 50/50 collective. Thus, Nouvelles Vagues will be composed of a jury of international and multidisciplinary artists under the age of 35 and international film school students. The competition will focus on 9 films about young people, made by emerging or established directors, unseen in France.
Outdoor cinema and festive evenings
A section outside the competition will highlight previews, school sessions for schools in the Biarritz region, the Gazteria section (Basque for “youth”) will ask the question “What can youth do?” 5 guests of honor and “Premiere fois” will welcome the filmmaker and his colleagues to review the work of his youth. The “Let’s Gau” session will meet moviegoers on the beach for a projection on a giant outdoor screen, a program with cult films and karaoke. But also a film-concert, artistic performances, a secret evening, a photo exhibition, events for young people… Nouvelles Vagues promises five days of cinema, celebration and discovery. To reveal the program of this unique event, actress Ana Girardot, a member of the festival office, produced an event teaser together with Anna Apter (also a graphic designer and creator of the festival poster).

Cinephile city
And by the way, why from Biar? In 1896, the Lumière brothers organized one of their first film screenings in the city. Since the cradle of cinema, Biarritz was pre-selected against Cannes to host the first edition of the international film festival in France… Biarritz didn’t win the tympanum, but it didn’t turn its back on the seventh art and has since hosted many more film shoots. : Hotel America by Andre Techine (1981), Deadly raid by Claude Miller (1983), end of summer About the Larrier brothers (1999)… To organize this ambitious new project, President Jérôme Pulis surrounded himself with Lili Hinstin (Programming Director), Guillaume Pepy (General Secretary), Francois-Xavier Menu (Treasurer), an office consisting of Elishay. Carmitz, Clarice Lacarau, Anne-Florence Schmitt, and Rosalie Varda. On the Board of Directors we meet Audrey Azoulay, Carole Bieneime Besse, Claire Borotra, Rachida Brackn, Lorenzo Schama, Grégoire Chertok, Lee-Ann Curren, Patricia Goldman, Elsa Heisman, Véronique Rampazzo and Elizabeth Tanner. Before the festival unveils its jury and competition films on June 6, Nouvelles Vagues already promises to stand out.
