The Fondation Pernot-Ricard is dedicating its first major exhibition in Paris to this protean work, where nature dialogues with humans at the crossroads of fairy tales and mythology.
“You’re not serious when you’re 17.” We know the mantra of the rebel Rimbaud. It was at this age, in her teenage years, that Mathilde Rosier began to paint. Born in Paris in 1973, the artist decided to retire to a grand house after completing her Beaux-Arts studies, a house her family had owned for generations in Burgundy. From this life in an agricultural and rural environment, in the heart of wine estates, stems his approach. Nature appears in the form of theatrical scenes, at the intersection of fairy tales and mythology, where animals and human characters coexist. His practice includes painting, drawing, film, costume design, performance… Out of time, he explores the boundaries between theater and reality, nature and culture.
After the Jeu de Paume, which showcased his work in 2010, the Fondation Pernot-Ricard presents him with his first major exhibition in Paris. Under the title In areas of intense prosperity, it will feature a wide variety of paintings, video, glass works and sculptures. Where we find this belief that art communicates with sentient life, that it is the ferry between the social body and nature. His new series revolves around hybrid bodies with plant limbs, ears of corn. The wind rushes through the cereal plants. On the project: the dissolution and intensification of the bond between plant and human.
