The Harry Potter universe is full of details, which often end up not being explained in an explicit way or even remain without any explanation. Among the many topics that fans would like to understand better is the Four Founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
What fans know about Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin is very little and still seems very incomplete. Besides there are some points about the history of these characters that don’t make sense. Check out some of them in the list below!
1. How did they meet?
The four founders of Hogwarts were very skilled wizards in their areas of expertise and had values that were very different from each other. What made such different people decide to found a school together? How did they meet? These questions were never answered…
2. The Chamber of Secrets
In “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” it is revealed that there is a Chamber of Secrets, with the presence of a Basilisk, inside Hogwarts and that few people knew about its existence. The space was created by Salazar Slytherin, without the other founders knowing about it. How was this secret kept? How did a Basilisk stay in the school for years without anyone noticing?
3. The subjects at Hogwarts
Have you noticed that none of the subjects at Hogwarts involve any Muggle subject, like math or even language lessons? The big question is: did the founders ignore these disciplines because they thought that children would learn the basics at home? It is worth remembering that wizards only start attending Hogwarts at age 11.
4. Hogwarts is a dangerous place

Dumbledore defends that Hogwarts is the safest place in the world, however, it seems that this was not the founders’ idea. They built a huge castle near a forbidden forest, on top of a mountain, which has high cliffs and can lead to a fatal fall.
And we cannot forget to comment on the architecture inside the school. Who says that moving stairs can be a safe idea for students?
5. The school’s motto
The Hogwarts motto is written in Latin and if we translate it, it reads something like “never tickle a sleeping dragon”. Why did they choose this motto? Was it another lesson they wanted to pass on to the students?
It is important to note that none of the Hogwarts houses have a dragon as a symbol, which makes the choice even stranger.
