The personal fortune of King Charles III of England is about 1,815 million pounds (about 2,260 million dollars) after he received an inheritance from his mother, Elizabeth II, according to an analysis of his estate published by a British newspaper. Guardian.
Although the real value of the monarch’s private property is “impossible to know”and is”hidden from public attention”, the newspaper assembled a team of 12 experts in real estate, automobiles and the arts, among other fields, to try to quantify this wealth.
Among other things, the king inherited from his mother Balmoral Castle in Scotland, surrounded by approximately 21,000 hectares of land worth 80 million pounds ($98 million), as well as Sandringham land in the east of England with 6,400 hectares of arable land worth 250 million pounds ($310 million).
Under a 1993 agreement between Elizabeth II and then British Prime Minister John Major, assets transferred from the monarch to her heir are exempt from inheritance tax, which in the UK is 40% for estates above £325,000 ($403,000).
Guardian It is also estimated that Carlos III has personal cars worth 6.3 million pounds ($7.8 million), philatelic collection worth 100 million pounds ($123 million) and works of art, including works by Salvador Dali and Marc Chagall, valued at 24 million pounds ($29 million).
Carlos III refuses to offer his own estimates of his fortune.
In response to a newspaper question the king’s spokesman denied the estimates were correct: “While we do not comment on (Carlos III’s) personal finances, his figures are with a creative mixture of speculation, speculation and infidelity.”
Buckingham Palace declined to provide its own estimates, saying the sovereign’s accounts should “remain private, like any other person’s accounts.”
Beyond personal wealth Charles IIImost of the property used by the British royal family is included in the so-called Crown Estate, a conglomerate of land and assets valued at £15.6 billion ($19.3 billion), formally owned by the king, albeit with limited control.
Each year, the government pays 25% of the revenue generated by this conglomerate to the Crown, an amount that in the 2020-2021 financial year was 86 million pounds ($106 million).
In addition, the King receives annually the beneficiaries of the Duchy of Lancaster (about 40,000 acres of rural England and various commercial and historical properties), some 20 million pounds (24 million dollars), and his eldest son William – those that belong to the Duchy of Cornwall – a similar amount, which become part of his personal fortune.
