Woody Harrelson is urging his friend and co-star Matthew McConaughey to join him in providing receipts when it comes to the potential family relationship.
Appearing on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Tuesday, Harrelson gave credence to McConaughey’s recent claim that the two actors may actually be half-siblings. The source of this theory, he explained, came from a group conversation he had with McConaughey’s mother, Kay, also known as “MawMac.”
“I’ll just say there’s some truth to that thought,” Harrelson said. “We were in Greece watching Team USA win the World Cup and, I don’t know, we talked about regrets. And I said, “You know, it’s weird that my dad doesn’t regret it.”
“I’ve known MawMac for a long time,” he continued. “And she says, ‘I met … your father.’ And I found the ellipses a bit creepy or interesting.”
Harrelson, whose father was hitman and organized crime figure Charles Voyde Harrelson, described Kay’s split as “full of innuendo”. About nine months before McConaughey was born, “she was on a sabbatical from her relationship with her alleged father, Jim,” she added.

Harrelson and McConaughey have worked together several times, most notably on the 1999 comedy “EdTV” and the HBO show “True Detective.” The two actors will appear together again in the aptly named AppleTV+ series Brother from Another Mother.
McConaughey first addressed her possible relationship with Harrelson in an appearance on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast.
“My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew,” she said in an episode released last week. “And you see pictures of us, and my family thinks a lot of the pictures of him are me. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him.”
Whether the actor’s remarks are merely aimed at promoting publicity for their new project is anyone’s guess. The only way to tell for sure, of course, is to take a DNA test, something both men said they were willing to do.
In his chat with Colbert, however, Harrelson suggested that McConaughey might be less thrilled if the test showed they had a father.
“We want to go and get tested, but it’s a much bigger problem for him because he feels like he’s lost a father,” she said. “I’m like no, you gained another father and brother.”
