Miss Figaro. – You act as a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival. How was the meeting with the other members of the jury?
Zabu Breitman. – When we meet the other members of the jury, we have an almost animal-first approach. Some of them are a bit reserved, but beware of sleeping water, as they say. You have to fight not to go to a party until 3 am. Lior Raz, Stuart Copeland, Daryl McCormack… They’re all wild. As for Shireen Boutella, she is more bulky, so the first contact was more direct and easy.

What do you think are the ingredients of a good series?
During the festival, each series will be judged on its first two episodes. The real question, I find, after “I like this series” is: “Do I want to see episode three?” The ingredients for a good series are the same as for any artwork. You need extremely sharp writing, interesting, modern production and actors who carry the text. You should have links and have fun with them.
Did you work on the series yourself? Paris etc. . What did this experience bring you?
At first it was not my series. I had to own it. The very first version was designed by Maiven and Anne Berest and I took over. But that’s fine with me, I like the adaptation. What am I interested in? Paris etc, was to follow five very different women, from different social backgrounds, and who were not the same age. What I really enjoyed, apart from directing, was working with so many actors. There were no less than 123 roles.
Character building
You yourself have acted in TV series. What are the differences between acting in a series and acting in a movie?
I just starred in the Apple series in Dior, alongside Juliette Binoche, who plays Coco Chanel. To appear in such a program, the actor must first of all find his way in the construction of his character, because we do not always shoot the sequence in the right order. And then, there are a lot of people on the set, the hosts, the script, the directors, which sometimes change from one episode to another… So you have to focus a lot on your character and his development.

Which TV series stood out to you the most this year?
I have a major weakness Disclaimer (2022). I would also say season two White lotus (2022), which is one of my favorites.

What do you think is the best TV series of all time?
I don’t think there is a best TV series of all time. The best series is the one that made you feel the most at some point in your life. It’s very intimate. Among the series I adore is its first season The Handmaid’s Tale, which is surprising. There is also ounce (1997), which was exceptional, and Profit (1996), which was banned in the United States after three episodes because it was so vulgar. Otherwise there is The boys, which I am a big fan of. It’s about superheroes who are monsters, I think that’s very clever. There is also friends, obviously. I review the whole series from time to time. I did this a while ago.

Would you be interested in writing an A to Z series?
I really like to write. I started writing a series about the daughters of the three musketeers. My father had this idea in 1988, it was called one for all. Unfortunately, this project was not implemented. However, I had written five episodes in the adventure comedy logbook. It’s a style I really like.
