When Thomas Pesquet explained why he won’t have children with longtime partner Anne Motte

The guest of the program “Sunday 20:30” in the person of Laurent Delahous, this April 16, the astronaut presented his documentary. Thomas Pesquet’s goal for France broadcast on April 25 on France 2. An opportunity to return to his passion for space, which “contaminates everything”.

If he regularly flies into space to join the ISS, Thomas Pesquet knows how to keep his feet on the ground when it comes to his personal life. However, the 45-year-old cosmonaut, who has been in a relationship with Anne Motte for many years, does not live with her and would not want to start a family at least at this time.

“An astronaut is a passion”

He who made history almost a year ago by becoming the first Frenchman to command the International Space Station (ISS) has thus chosen a life of passion and compromise. As he explained at length in an interview in the columns Parisian weekend In 2021, first of all, he “never had so much time”, nor an “uncontrollable desire” to have children.

Above all, his job wouldn’t let him. It’s not an ideal trade for a family (…) Astronaut, it’s a consuming passion. I work all day and evening. I play sports on weekends, which is also part of my job. It is a profession that pollutes everything. We easily allow ourselves to be absorbed and family unfortunately comes second. I think you should try to make the most of it between missions and make time for your loved ones, otherwise the bonds will weaken,” he added.

Call from space

If a couple who met in high school did not already live together, they would call each other very regularly, even when the astronaut is on a mission. “Everyone makes a little of their phone calls in the evening (On the ISS, editor’s note). There’s always someone on the phone about 6 or 7 of the crew because there’s family, friends, special occasions, things like that,” he said.

Golden rule

A life that seems to completely satisfy Anne Motte, whose schedule is also very tight. At the age of 45, the latter deals with issues of livestock policy at the FAO, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, whose headquarters are located in Rome. “He is working to save the world, developing cultures resistant to climate change,” Thomas Pesquet also welcomed. Set free in 2017.

Thus, their long-distance love will allow them to focus more effectively on their professional lives while enjoying moments together when reunited on dry land. However, in order to preserve the couple’s life, a golden rule would be established to see each other at least twice a month.

On her Instagram page, Anne Mottet does not hesitate to share their moments of happiness with photo albums and videos. Walks in the forest, cycling, hiking… the duo seems to have found their balance in this fast-paced life.
