This paradise between the sea and the rice fields is the spirit of the Hamptons of Portugal. Over the years, Comporta has become the chic bohemian haven of the jet-set, where design expert Patrick Perrin opens his bright home to us.
Patrick Perrin, creator of PAD, the arts and design pavilion, “immediately fell madly in love with Comporta, the Portuguese Eldorado discovered by decorator Jacques Grange. The latter has restored some fifty fishermen’s huts there, which have become Robinsonades for the lucky few, from Madonna to Isabelle Ajani or Philippe Starck, and is working with Louis Albert de Broglie, the “gardener prince”, on the environmental project Comporta Utopia.

For Patrick Perrin, a nature-loving esthete, this “utopia” of pines, sand dunes, endless beaches immediately echoed the wild freedom of Landes’ childhood holidays. A dream come true for this indefatigable man who roams the flea markets on Sundays, shaking and enlivening a world of fine craftsmanship and pitchers, iconic classics and new signatures.
Thanks to him, the best French and international galleries now form a common pavilion at PAD. The show also had its 25th this yeare edition planted in the Tuileries as a setting for initiatory travel. No fewer than eighteen new recruits met there, including Remix Gallery and Nans Design, neo-researchers of the 1980s, and who came from all over the world, from Milan with DimoreGallery to Mumbai with Aequo, the nugget incubator. : “It’s proof that Paris is an attraction with its pool of young talent,” smiles Patrick Perrin. And at 25 years old, we haven’t seen it all yet, PAD isn’t done impressing the gallery, reshaping the design world. And its creator escaped to his home in Comporta for ocean breaks.
