The theme from Super Mario Bros. is the first in-game music to be included in the US Library of Congress. Today the track will stand alongside hits by Mariah Carey, John Lennon and Madonna. About that said on the congressional Twitter page.
It was noted that the famous melody was written by Japanese composer Cody Kondo. It was created with the hope that short pieces of music can be repeated endlessly in the same game process without causing boredom.
“The most famous game track in history was the first game track for the National Audio Recording Registry. Koji Kondo’s Super Mario Bros. theme helped establish the game’s legendary status and proved that the Nintendo sound chip was capable of to some pretty complicated music,” the post reads.
The National Recording Registry was created to preserve some of the world’s most famous songs and music for future generations. In total, the library’s music collection contains approximately one million audio recordings and albums.
