Find out what are some of the levels of the Italian plumber game franchise present in ‘Super Mario Bros. The film’
Already showing in Brazilian cinemas, ‘Super Mario Bros. O Filme’, a feature film produced through a partnership between nintendo and Illumination, brings to the screen the trajectory of the most beloved Italian plumber in pop culture by adapting the Mario game franchise created in the 1980s, where he faces obstacles and villains to complete the mission to save the adorable princess Peach.
In the film, the story is a little different, as Bowser does not kidnap the princess, who is the leader of the Mushroom Kingdom here, but Mario’s brother, Luigi. Even so, there are several similarities and references to the original plot in the film, some of which are the stages of the different titles starring the ‘mustagodudo’. Check out some of them below!
1. Donkey Kong – Level 1
When Mario was created by Nintendo’s game designer, the Japanese Shigeru Miyamotothe initial plan was for him to be the opponent of the monkey Donkey Kong in the first level of the game that bears the name of the villain.
With that in mind, the fight between the two, which can be played in the 1981 arcade and consists of Donkey Kong atop a sequence of red beams shooting barrels at Mario, was reinterpreted in the film, as the trailer features Mario and Donkey Kong fighting while they are in a red beam.
2. Bowser’s Castle
The final stage of the Mario games is also found in animation! Appearing in games as the last place that the Italian plumber must explore to complete his mission, Bowser’s Castle is essential for the completion of the game, and is also present in the feature film which is directed by Aaron Horvath It is Michael Jelenic.
3. Super Mario Kart – Rainbow Road
Already in the previews it is possible to notice the presence of Rainbow Road, one of the stages (usually the final stage) of the Super Mario Kart games. The rainbow-colored track is known to be one of the most difficult courses to complete, as it is common for cars to slide off the edge.
4. Super Mario 64 – Bob-omb Battlefield
The first stage of Super Mario 64 is named Bob-omb Battlefield. The level that is depicted in the movie features a grassy battlefield from a war, where, according to Screenrant, Mario must face Chain Chomps, Goombas, Koopas and explosive Bob-ombs.
5. Super Mario Bros. U – Rock Candy Mines
Also featured in the animation trailers, the Rock Candy Mines featured in New Super Mario Bros. U of 2012, appear in the film when Toad and Princess Peach appear on top of giant structures that surpass even the height of the clouds.
