Kassel, Duris, Marmai, Civil. Secrets of the Star Quartet of the Three Musketeers

Exclusively in front of Mondino’s lens, the star quartet of the Three Musketeers demonstrate solidarity and complicity. Engine!

The atmosphere of the big day at Studio M in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, where hair stylists, make-up artists, assistant stylists and more are seen. It is not an American diva in the center of all this attention, but a delicate flower of French testosterone. Jean-Baptiste Mondino paints Vincent Cassel, Romain Duris, Pio Marma and Francois Civil in a friendly atmosphere.

In the video, The Three Musketeersthe teaser

Four actors for the three musketeers in the film of the same name, directed by Martin Bourboulon (mom or dad, eiffel), that is, the biggest budget of this film year, estimated at 72 million euros. Announced two years ago, this 37th adaptation of the literary work brings together four big names in French cinema: Vincent Cassel as Athos, Romain Duris as Aramis, Pio Marmay as Porthos and François Civil d’Artagnan. An absolutely gorgeous cast, a foursome of handsome men, fashionable, even seductive characters of beloved actors who became friends during this five-month shoot. In order to make Dumas’ epic feminine, the director called on three actresses who were well-known in original films: Lina Khoudry (Constance Bonacieux), international Eva Green (Milady) and Vicky Cripps (Queen Anne of Austria). Split into two films focusing on the characters of d’Artagnan and then Milady, this French-style blockbuster is one of those films designed to create an event and bring the public back to cinema.

“Methe musketeers» By Vincent Cassel

“Playing Athos takes me back to my childhood on the set of Richard Lester’s film in Madrid, where I accompanied my father (Jean-Pierre Cassel, Ed.) who played the role of King Louis XIII. I remember being dazzled by the costumes, the sets, and it was new to me to see my father in a historical role, which was very different from his previous New Wave characters. As an actor, I am proud that the French have taken up the story of Alexandre Dumas after more than sixty years of leaving it in the hands of foreigners. It was a real pleasure to participate in this film with a popular potential, because no matter what people say, the actor always wants the public to see his films. The Musketeers’ announcement in the cinema created a real emulation, and people are talking to me about it everywhere, even in Brazil.

“French Western” by Romain Duris.

“As a child, I watched Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns and very early on I played cowboy with sticks as guns. Alexandre Dumas’ epic is close to this universe, and Musketeers is a bit of our western for us. To direct an adventure film, the director, Martin Bourboulon, whom I have known since the day we shot eiffel together we have ensured that every scene and every frame is a great movie. He made sure that nothing sounded wrong and that this cloak and dagger film did not seem “costumed”.

With such obvious chemistry between us, it wasn’t hard to bring it back on screen.

“Meghsaksutsiyon” by Francois Civil.

“My meeting with the other three musketeers took place during a duel organized within the fencing class. I became friends with Pio Marmai, with whom I had already played in the cinema, but I was quite frightened by the idea of meeting Vincent Cassel and Romain Duris, because their cult characters c. Hate and in The Spanish Inn made me dream of a time when I didn’t even consider cinema as a profession. After all, being around sports immediately dampened the atmosphere. It must be said that I was by far the most trained in fencing, and that I did not win a single match against them… With such an obvious chemistry between us, it was not difficult to recreate it on screen at that time.

Pio Marma’s “Great Cinema”

“When you are an actor, you avoid thinking about the scope of the project, but it was the first time I worked on such a long film. Because we shot both parts of The Musketeers at the same time, it took five months. There were a lot of extras on the set, lighting restrictions, scenery… It took half an hour to change shots, and for example, when you had to redo the scene with the carriage, the horse didn’t turn back. , it had to be made to go around the entire board. The organization of the shoot was therefore very difficult, but we were lucky that the collective spirit took over quite quickly and very strongly. There was no war of egos, on the contrary, we really wanted to have fun together while staying very focused in the scenes, especially the fight scenes.

“D’Artagnan” by François Civil.

“To portray this iconic character, I had to free myself from the weight of history, Alexandre Dumas’ novel and the pantheon of actors who played him (Gene Kelly, Jean-Paul Belmondo or Douglas Fairbanks…). In order not to worry about all these elements, I tried to focus on the script and soul of this determined, idealistic and fiery character. It’s funny because while I personally wouldn’t risk my life to save my name, I think d’Artagnan’s personality isn’t that far removed from me. I make the same observation with the rest of the cast. In Lina Khoudry we find a certain innocence like Constance Bonacieux, Pio Marmai shares the bon vivant spirit of Porthos, Romain Duris has the same seductive and feline side as Aramis, and Vincent Cassel’s charisma is reminiscent of that of Athos in The Three Musketeers. Only Eva Green dealt with Milady’s dark and Machiavellian character. He impressed me.”

The father figure has long been frozen in authority, but men now occupy a place in family life that our fathers probably did not occupy.

“Man in 2023” by Vincent Cassel.

“All evolution offers good and less good. I think so many things have been said that we don’t really know how to identify each person’s role anymore and everyone ends up a little lost. It’s about coming to terms with the times and seeing how to adapt to this new situation. As for me, I use this current that advocates the feminization of men as an opportunity to bond with my children. The father figure has long been frozen in authority, but men now occupy a place in family life that our fathers probably did not occupy. What is important for me to pass on to my daughters? Disobedience and fantasy. I think it’s important to keep a certain naive outlook on life, and this philosophy helps me in my acting profession. As for the relationship between a man and a woman on set, I always thought that it must be difficult for actresses sometimes, so I make sure they feel comfortable. But I do the same with actors. For what ? Because I feel like it’s when you feel safe that you give your best. However, the challenge for an actor is to be able to feel at home, to find his space of freedom in any creative environment. Whether in the face of Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts in the US or in the heart of Félix-Pyatt in Marseille.

“Courage” by Pio Marma.

“I’ve stopped going for it, maybe I feel a little less feverish than before… Sometimes in life I’m even more of a spectator than an actor, but my courage, I think, is based on my sincerity and my honesty. I gradually start to ask myself and take a step back from my life and work. I don’t know if it’s directly related to courage, but what interests me in my work today is to pursue projects that excite me and even scare me a little. The unknown animates me, and I’m not afraid of failure.

“Temptation” by Francois Civil.

“A man today does not occupy the same place as he did in the 17th century, and that is why I was careful while writing my scenes with Lina Khoudri. I found d’Artagnan to be a little too persistent in his flirtation with Constance Bonacieux, and even if that’s how it’s written in Alexandre Dumas’ novel, I found it interesting to modernize this seduction by infusing it with a little more respectability. D’Artagnan retains his charm and his slightly clumsy side, but he never takes it too hard in the version of the script written by Alexandre de La Patellier and Mathieu Delaporte, he always remains charming.

Currently, I would say that the person is developing. he listens more, thinks a little less about himself, and that’s very good.

Romain Duris

“Manhood” by Romain Duris.

“As soon as I arrived on this Earth, I struggled with the idea of masculinity, strength, masculine power. Currently, I would say that the person is developing. he listens more, thinks a little less about himself, and that’s very good. He gains softness, lightness, and perhaps leaves a little more room for his sensitivity. It was to use this sensitivity that I chose the profession of an actor. What pretty much sums up masculinity or masculinity for me are Rodin’s sculptures; strength mixed with beauty and fragility. It upsets me a lot.”

“Luck” by Francois Civil.

“I’m at a stage in my career where I don’t really see the best that could happen to me. I feel extremely fortunate with the offers I’ve received, in the words of Louis SC, the king of American stand-up, who says, you lack oxygen, you can’t live there for long.” As I expect the projects to one day slow down or stop, I’m taking full advantage of the moment.
