5 Things That Don’t Make Sense About ‘Toy Story’

‘Toy Story’ hit theaters in 1995 under the direction of the filmmakerJohn Lasseterto present the story of Woody, Buzz, Betty, Rex, Mister Potato Head and many other toys that come to life when humans are not around, showing that there is much to explore beyond just having fun with the kids.

The franchise has become a huge success, with three sequels released in 1999, 2010 and 2019, and with a fourth on the way, as in early February of this year, Disney confirmed the production of “Toy Story 5”. Therefore, before the release of the new animation, we have gathered below 5 things that do not make sense in the films of the ‘Toy Story’ franchise. Check out!

1. Andy’s mother’s inattention

It is true that Andy has many toys, and is always playing with them, and it is difficult to count the exact amount, or which names are part of the list of plastic and cloth companions that he has.

But, with the arrival of the aliens, followed by the inclusion of Bullet in Target and Jessie, it doesn’t make sense that Andy’s mother doesn’t notice that new toys that weren’t given to the boy are part of her collection, or even, that she didn’t question Andy about how the new dolls got there.

2. Human and superhuman abilities in toys

Talking, walking, thinking and acting like humans: these are skills that no toy owner could imagine their dolls could possess. Even so, within the magical universe of ‘Toy Story’ these are still normal actions for Andy’s dolls, as there are other even more unreal characteristics.

As an example, in the second film, when Buzz and the other toys take turns so that they manage to drive the Pizza Planet truck to the airport, or even, the super speed of the bullet on the target in the third film, which manages to reach the plane, and with Buzz’s help, save Jessie and Woody.

3. Just Buzz Think He’s Real

When Buzz is introduced in Andy’s room, he believes he is not a toy, but a space ranger trying to defeat Zurg. He ends up becoming aware of his reality at some point, however, the other toys don’t seem to go through the same identity crisis, which is confusing, as it would be acceptable for them to feel confused when they come out of their boxes for the first time.

4. The rules between toys

In the very first film, the audience is introduced to two clear rules among toys:

  1. Don’t get caught being alive
  2. No toy is left behind

Although it is a common consensus among dolls, they do not always follow the laws imposed by themselves, since toys are forgotten, and in some situations, they end up returning to inanimate mode in different positions than those previously left by Andy.

5. The truth about toys was never found out

The previous topic leads to the final point of this list: how was the truth about toys never discovered? The issue remains one of the biggest doubts about the franchise, as Woody and his friends have already taken risks several times, whether walking under cones on the avenue, sneaking through the nursery garden, driving cars or talking to Sid.
