In celebration of International Women’s Day, see Disney productions that are commanded by great directors!
Disney has an extensive list of animated female characters that have transformed the history of the studio, such as Snow White, the protagonist of Disney’s first animated feature film. Mickey’s house released in 1937, or Merida, princess who appears in ‘Brave’, a film that won the Oscar for Best Animation in 2013.
But beyond the figures that appear on the screens, the real-life women who were responsible for commanding some of the biggest productions of the company created by walt disneyalso contributed to the growth of the studio that has existed for nearly 100 years.
With them in mind, RECREIO takes advantage of International Women’s Day, celebrated today, March 8, to separate a list of 5 studio animations directed by women, which you cannot miss. Check it out below!
1. Frozen – A Freezing Adventure
With the co-direction of Jennifer Lee‘Frozen – A Freezing Adventure’ hit theaters in 2013 featuring the sisters Elsa and Anna from the kingdom of Arendelle, a story that earned the Oscar for Best Animation in 2014.
In the plot, Elsa is isolated in the mountains of ice, after her powers condemn the kingdom and which lived in an eternal winter, making Anna face dangerous paths to find her sister and undo the curse.
2. bao

Released in 2018, the short film accompanies a Chinese-Canadian mother who suffers after her son becomes independent and leaves home, but who sees her days gain color again after a stuffed dumpling comes to life, counts with the direction of the director and Chinese illustrator, Domee Shi.
Available on Disney+, the film took the golden statuette for Best Animated Short Film at the 2019 Oscars.
3. Red – Growing up is a Beast

Going through adolescence is a big challenge, and it can often be scary. But, have you ever thought about turning into a red panda at the height of your 13 years while facing changes in your body, discovering passions and dealing with an extremely protective mother? Mei Lee went through all of that, and believe me, she survived!
Also commanded by Domee Shi‘Red – Growing up is a Beast’ is running for the Oscar for Best Animation at the ceremony that will take place on March 12 of this year.
4. Brave

In addition to opposing the classic story in which the princess is saved by the prince, ‘Brave’ hit theaters featuring Merida, the young redhead with curly hair who defies tradition to decide her own destiny, even though an unthinking desire makes a close person falls victim to a terrible curse.
The plot, which is co-directed by Brenda Chapmanwon the Academy Award for Best Animation in 2013.
5. Adventures of Betty

Released exclusively on Disney+, the short film ‘Adventures of Betty’ is directed by Valerie LaPointe to tell what happened to the fearless sheep shepherd during the events of ‘Toy Story 3’, a film in the franchise in which she does not appear.
