What adaptations have been made of the boy who never grows up?

‘Peter Pan’, a great Disney classic, had this character created by the author JM Barrie for a play in 1904 entitled ‘Peter Pan’, or ‘The Boy Who Didn’t Want to Grow Up’ and in addition to the book version and the classic animation, the plot already has several other adaptations.

The characters who travel to Neverland appeared before Disney’s well-known work had its solo format, in 1902, being presented in a series of short stories by the author entitled ‘O Passarinho Branco’, where, in the plot, the idea of ​​the boy who didn’t want to grow up.

Knowing of its various adaptations and with the proximity of the arrival of the plot’s live-action, entitled ‘Peter and Wendy’, RECREIO went after the already made versions of the story of the boy who never grows up. Check it out below:

1. ‘Peter Pan’ (1924)

The version, released by Paramount Pictures, was a silent film. However, the plot of the film was the same: The magical boy Peter Pan did not want to grow up, and together with Wendy, John, and Michael, they go from London to Neverland, where they live several adventures.

2. ‘Walt Disney’s Peter Pan’ (1953)

This adaptation of the plot was based on the duo Peter and Wendy, and, as unusual as it may seem, this film did not have any dialogue from the original film.

3. ‘Back to Neverland’ (2002)

In this version of the film, Wendy’s daughter, Jane, no longer trusts Peter Pan, but, after a fight with her mother and brother regarding Peter’s existence, she is kidnapped by Hook. However, in the end, the one who saves her is Pan.

It is worth remembering that this version was not based on any novel, but on an original, non-canon Disney sequel.

4. ‘Peter Pan’ (2003)

This version of the classic disney depicts the traditional story of the title character. In addition, although it was released in 2003, this version only arrived in Brazil in 2004.

5. ‘Finding Neverland’ (2005)

The film, which has in its cast the actor Johnny Depp in the role of JM Barrie, portrays him as being a successful author of plays, which, as famous as he is, his last work was not well received by his audience. Among several twists and turns, JM creates a highly successful work: Peter Pan.

6. ‘Peter’ (2012)

In this adaptation, which is based on the 6-volume French comic book written by Regis Loisel, the title character’s mother is carefree as well as an alcoholic. In the plot, Peter is kicked out of the house by his mother and finds a little fairy, who accompanies him to Neverland.

7. ‘Hook – The Return of Captain Hook’ (1992)

In this version, Peter grows up and falls in love with Moira, Wendy’s granddaughter, and has children with her. However, Pan’s children are kidnapped by Hook, and the villain teaches Jack, one of the children’s names, to forget his father.

8. ‘Peter Pan’ (2015)

This adaptation shows a 12-year-old Peter living in an orphanage in London during World War II. At one point, Pan and the children who were with him are kidnapped by pirates in a flying ship. But, during the storyline, the ship escapes and heads towards Neverland.
