Is my best movie always the last?
I don’t know if Talking women is the best, but I’m very proud of it because I think it’s essential. It breaks taboos thanks to its female protagonists who talk about the sexual abuse they suffered and the effect it had on them, their daughters, their community. This word is finally heard less. the stories often focus on the hunt for the executioner, the difficulty of recounting suffering, or even revenge. However, the victims literally restore the power.
My character?
A passionate and generous woman who, despite her injuries, fights to move the lines.
What do I have in common with him?
I also feel in my element among women because although our experiences are different, we share commonalities in our stories. Like my character, I also need to seek compensation. I cannot bear injustice that goes unpunished or ignored.
“The Me Too channel allowed us to say out loud what we were whispering.”
My situation at the moment?
I feel liberated. The #Metoo movement allowed us to speak our minds out loud. Releasing what was repressed but part of many women’s experience. Today we are no longer waiting for permission to speak.
What do I regret?
That this film was not made fifty years ago. The face of cinema would be very different if we hadn’t waited so long to give directors like Sarah Polley a chance to make this kind of film. We should not minimize the influence of cinema on our thinking and the general functioning of society.
The event to be implemented for gender equality.Learn to listen. If we stopped telling a determined woman that she was behaving like a man, it wouldn’t be bad enough.
When I was younger, I was unkind to myself, but the older you get, the more you face life’s vagaries, the more forgiving you become.
Claire Foy
My mental load.
I don’t know. I have the impression that the more it goes on, the more I learn to detach from it, to delegate.
What do I think about putting on makeup in front of the mirror in the morning?
“Here you are again. When I was younger, I was unforgiving with myself, but the older you get, the more you face life’s ups and downs, the more forgiving you become.
I lie in an interview.
Constantly. I’m not going to tell journalists the whole truth yet! I try to make my own way, which is convenient for me.
Talk about me in an ad…
It’s part of the game, but it’s weird. Sometimes, as it should be said, I feel like I’m not quite me anymore. I sometimes go out of my body during interviews and say to myself: “Do you really think so?”
“I would like people to say that the film provokes a conversation about the place of women.”
The question I am afraid of.
Everyone turning me into a frozen figure, asking about my make-up, my hair, my wardrobe… They bore me deeply.
Criticism that would make me happy Talking women ?
We may not agree with all the characters, but I would like people to say that the film provokes conversations about the place of women, that it raises important questions for the progress of our society.
Last time I was proud of myself?
Every day I run out of things to do.
