5 Lessons We Learned From the ‘High School Musical’ Franchise

Find out what ‘High School Musical’ lessons you can learn from the movies and series

Introducing Vanessa Hudgens as Gabriella Montez and Zac Efron like Troy Bolton, ‘High School Musical’ emerged in 2006 with a plot full of dramas, dreams, romances — and of course, many songs — which due to its popularity turned into a franchise that has two more sequels.

In addition to the sequels, the story developed by Disney Channel also received two spin-offs, the first of which was released in 2011 under the title ‘The Fabulous Adventure of Sharpay’, and the last, the series ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ where new East High students perform a musical inspired by the original film trilogy.

The feature films and the narrative that is divided into episodes marked — and still mark — an entire generation of children and adolescents who grew up following the musical plot, which is full of important lessons about the choices we can make in the most different stages of life.

But, do you know what are the main lessons that the Wildcats have to teach? RECREIO gathered 5 of them below so you can check them out. Look!

5. You are not alone

As one of the main songs of the franchise says “We are all in this together”, which translates to “We are all together in this”. The phrase that is proven by all the times the characters supported and helped each other shows that regardless of the situation you find yourself in, you are not alone and you can always count on someone’s support.

4. Enjoy each level

The productions starring the Wildcats show that time passes quickly and that it is necessary to enjoy the moment you are. This can be seen in the way the original trilogy films present themselves, as the first highlights the discovery of new talent and what each one really likes to do, while the last celebrates growth and the emergence of new goals.

3. Don’t be afraid to try

At times, we may feel insecure about trying something new, either because of fear of failure, of disappointing someone, or for any other reason. The franchise shows that we must face insecurities and act according to our heart, as we can discover new passions, professions and hobbies, as Troy shows with his music and Martha with dance.

2. Respect individuality

There are cases where parents can project their goals and dreams onto their children, as with the Bolton coach who wants Troy to follow the same paths as him in basketball. However, the dynamic between father and son proves that it is necessary to respect each one’s individuality, after all, your goals cannot be the same as those close to you.

1. Be yourself

Finally, perhaps this is the great and main lesson of ‘High School Musical’: Be yourself. The trajectory of the characters during the three films reinforces that it is important to be true to who you are and what you like, following the path you would like to chart for your own future, without giving in to other people’s expectations.
