At the Literary Fund auction in Russia, the death mask of the Ukrainian writer Nikolai Gogol is being sold. They plan to get 250 thousand rubles for it. This was reported by TASS.
“The value of the collection at the museum level has a death mask of Nikolai Gogol made of gypsum by Nikolai Ramazanov (about 1852). Antiques are presented at a starting rate of 250,000 rubles,” the statement said.
The press service of the auction house quoted Ramazanov as saying: “On February 21, 1852, after dinner, the bell rang in my apartment and a very alarmed Mr. Aksakov appeared and announced the death of Gogol. When approaching me in Gogol’s body, he did not do it. and his unclosed right eye gave rise to the idea of a lethargic dream in me, so I suddenly decided to take off the mask.
It is known that the auction will be held on February 9.
