Jon Landau Teases Details About Upcoming Avatar Sequels

Since its debut in December last year, ‘Avatar’ has been breaking box office records.

After more than ten years since the release of the first film in the franchise, ‘Avatar: The Path of Water’ arrived in theaters at the end of last year with a great success at the box office. Recently, the producer of the second film in the saga, Jon Landaucommented on some details of what the public can expect from the next films in the James Cameronbeing the third, fourth and fifth feature.

For Empire magazine, via Deadline and Omelete, the producer of the second film in the James commented on the role of Oona Chaplin in the next film of the saga. In ‘Avatar 3’, the ‘Game of Thrones’ actress will be the character Varang, having an anatgonist role and being leader of the fire-themed Na’vi tribe. Furthermore, she will be known as Ash People.

So, when commenting on the character, Jon Landau said: “There are good humans and bad humans. It’s the same on the Na’vi side,” he continued, “A lot of times, people don’t see themselves as evil. What is the root cause of how they evolve into what we perceive as bad? Maybe there are other factors that we don’t know about.”

Also, during the interview, Jon talked about ‘Avatar 4’. He commented that this movie in the saga will have “a big jump in time”. In addition, in the fifth film of the franchise, the plot spends some time here on Earth. In the story, as Landauthe planet will face “overpopulation and depletion of our natural resources that make life more difficult”.

But, Jon commented that the saga team does not “want to paint a bleak picture of where our world is heading. The films are also about the idea that we can change course.”

‘Avatar 3’ is scheduled for December 2024, while the fourth and fifth film in the franchise is scheduled for release in 2026 and 2028, respectively.
