The promise for the future of the ‘Avatar’ franchise should be seen in sequels planned for 2024, 2026 and 2028
After the release of ‘Avatar: The Path of Water’ in theaters, fans of the franchise created by James Cameron await news about the next sequences of the plot set in Pandora. With that in mind, the director revealed in an interview with 20 Minutes what the new films will bring to the screens in the coming years.
One of the promises Cameronis, unlike the first feature films, represent the dark side of the Na’Vi, alien race native to the moon Pandora:
I want to show the Na’vis from another perspective, because for now I’ve only shown their good sides. In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vis examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the reverse.”
In addition, the filmmaker said that just like ‘O Caminho da Água’, the new plots should address the history and experience of other native peoples, in addition to advancing that the last films will be the best in the franchise.
We will also explore new universes as we continue the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way of setting the table before serving the meal. But obviously it all depends on how Avatar 2 is received, whether it “finds its audience.”
It is worth remembering that ‘Avatar’ hit theaters in 2009, however, its first sequel, ‘O Caminho da Água’, hit the big screen 13 years after the release of the first film. The franchise is expected to win three more films scheduled to enter the poster in 2024, 2026 and 2028, respectively.
‘Avatar: The Path of Water’ had its premiere held on December 15, 2022 starring Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi and Kate Winslet. Remember the trailer!
