Deliveries of Loongson processors based on their own LoongArch architecture can replace Intel, writes Kommersant.

The Chinese government banned the supply of Loongson processors to the Russian Federation, the technology recognized as strategically important and used in the country’s military-industrial complex. This was reported on December 13 by Kommersant, citing sources.

It is noted that a number of Russian electronics manufacturers have already tested Chinese processors and believe that they can replace Intel if the parallel import channels are blocked.

“The best chipsets in China are used in the military-industrial complex, this is the main reason why they are not available for foreign markets,” said the source.

Loongson Corporation was founded in 2002 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences to create an alternative to American Intel and AMD processors. In the spring of 2021, the corporation introduced its own Loongson Instruction Set Architecture (LoongArch), which is compatible with programs written for Intel (X86) and AMD (ARM) architectures.

It can be remembered that after the military invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, many foreign brands suspended the supply of their products to the country, or withdrew their business.

To get out of this situation, the Russian authorities legalized parallel imports – the import of goods without the permission of the manufacturer or copyright holder.
