38e The Youth Book Fair is in full swing in Montreuil (Saint-Saint-Denis) from Wednesday. An inexplicable event for lovers of children’s literature, a few weeks before the end of the year celebrations. More than 400 exhibitors, including many small independent publishers, 280 children’s authors, meet their public until Monday 5 December. With its ‘Wishes of the World’ theme, the show hopes to bring smiles back to the industry, reaching a record 180,000 visitors.
As with the rest of the editions, the youth segment dropped in 2022, after the exclusive 2021. According to the GfK Institute, sales volumes in the period from January to October decreased by 12% year-on-year and even remain 3% lower than in 2019. The novel intended only for teenagers is keeping good momentum.
