Under the name Moskvich 3, a copy of the Chinese crossover JAC JS4 will be assembled in two versions – gasoline and electric.
In Moscow, at the former Renault plant, mass production of the Moskvich 3 crossover was launched, Kommersant reported on Wednesday, November 23.
According to the publication, the production was solemnly opened by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and General Director of the Moskvich plant Dmitry Pronin.
Sales of the “new crossover” are expected to begin in March 2023.
“The task for the near future is to establish small-scale assembly processes with the participation of local suppliers by the end of 2023. The next step is to create our own universal platform for a domestic electric vehicle , the start of production of which is scheduled for the end of 2025, “said Manturov.
Note that the launched production of the “new crossover” Moskvich 3 is actually an SKD assembly of the Chinese JAC JS4. According to the published official certification documents, both external and technical Moskvich 3 is almost no different from the Chinese “parent”.
It is expected that by the end of the year the plant will be able to assemble 600 vehicles, 200 of which will be electric vehicles.
Recall that the Russian assets of Renault passed into the ownership of the state of the Russian Federation in May, and in June it was renamed JSC Moscow Automobile Plant Moskvich. The media then assumed that Chinese cars would be built at the plant.
