This trade will reduce the countries’ need for other foreign currencies, asserted Fatih Donmez.

“For about five or six years, both leaders (the presidents of Turkey and the Russian Federation – ed.) have always expressed their intention to facilitate trade in national currencies. At the moment, the process was slightly accelerated, an agreement was reached at our last meeting. In this regard, of course, it is necessary to carry out some technical work. Trading in rubles has partially started,” said Donmez.
“We will see it intensify in the coming months,” he said.
“There is a consensus on this issue on both sides. Of course, the fact that this is happening in national currencies will also reduce the need for countries in other foreign currencies,” added the minister.
Speaking about the prospects for the creation of a gas hub in Turkey, Donmez expressed the opinion that it would allow the establishment of a more favorable, competitive gas price for European consumers due to the fact that the hub will have gas from several countries compared to the situation. when from Russia to Europe a third of the gas consumed is supplied directly.
For example, gas is now supplied to Turkey from Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, and research is being carried out in Iraq. Also this year, the country received LNG from Nigeria, the United States, Trinidad and Tobago, Angola, Egypt and France.
Earlier it was reported that Turkey reduced the import of Russian gas in favor of other suppliers – from Azerbaijan and Iran.
