Ukraine has requested monthly assistance of $ 5 billion to fill the budget deficit due to the war.
Most of the financial support to Ukraine to cover the budget deficit of $ 5 billion is planned to be provided as grants, said on Friday, April 22, the director of the IMF European Department, Alfred Kammer, writes Interfax-Ukraine.
“We suggest that most of the support be given in the form of grants. There are different types … including the possibility for IMF participants to grant their own special drawing rights (SDRs),” he says.
Kammer noted that the estimated $ 5 billion monthly deficit for the next two months was carried out by the Ukrainian authorities together with the IMF.
Among the instruments to support Ukraine, he named the IMF Special Account, the World Bank Multi-Donor Trust Fund, and the EU Solidarity Trust Fund.
“Further broad donor support will be critical to Ukraine’s medium-term economic outlook, as the reconstruction needs after the war are likely to be overwhelming,” the IMF stressed.
Recall, the IMF recently announced that it would help Ukraine cover a financial deficit of $ 15 billion over the next three months.
It was also reported that the G7 countries will provide Ukraine with additional financial support in the amount of more than $ 24 billion for 2022 and are willing to increase it if necessary.
