The department said that the sharp increase in the price of eggs in the past two months was caused by an increase in seasonal demand, as well as a significant reduction in the number of chickens, a decrease in production due to the conflict and the closure of some industrial enterprises. because of the Russian invasion.

According to the ministry, the largest decrease in egg production was recorded in April – at 3.78 billion eggs, which is 17.3% less than in April 2021. Since May, the decrease in their production has reached a plateau, and since July, the decline slightly accelerated (by 0.7 percentage points). In September, the rate of decline decreased, according to its results for January-September 2022, 9.29 million units were produced. eggs, which is 15.7% lower compared to January-September 2021.
“In the meantime, by the end of the year, at least +6.5 million birds will be planted, which is 35-40% more than in September. From the moment of planting to the beginning of full egg laying, 150 days (five) . month) has passed. We can expect the prices to drop to be economically justified. We have reached the price plateau, and when the number of chickens hatched increases, we expect a price reduction,” said Deputy Minister Taras Vysotsky.
From the beginning of September to October 27, chicken eggs increased on average in Ukraine by 2.07 times – from UAH 29.91/10 PCs. at UAH 62.01/10 units, while the largest increase of 16% during this period was observed from September 30 to October 7.
It is known that on October 20, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine launched an investigation into the increase in the price of eggs. All the factors of influence of business entities in the industry on the pricing of this product will be analyzed.
