Why did the dollar rise?
The rise in the dollar today is not a reaction to a sharp movement in the market, but is associated with a global trend, said Alberto Arispe, an economist and manager at Kallpa SAB.
Arispe specified that one of the factors that pushed the dollar up is high interest rates in USA, as well as the crisis in Europe and emerging markets. This, he points out, has determined that investors are selling risky and euro-denominated assets and prefer to buy dollars.
“The market trusts American economy compared to other economies, and high interest rates provide more demand for dollars in general,” he said.
In addition, he points out that in the local market, zero growth in private investment and a sense of stagnation in the country is limiting capital inflows and not supporting the Peruvian salt.
