Ukraine will be able to import up to one billion cubic meters of gas through the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, said the head of Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, published on Friday, October 7.

“We can now receive gas through this pipeline, and we have preliminary agreements with suppliers of such gas, and there is even free capacity in the pipeline, which, informally, was left only for Naftogaz, for Ukraine,” the leader. said the NJSC.
At the same time, Vitrenko noted that the company currently does not have the funds to import gas at today’s prices.
“But the problem is that 1 billion cubic meters, which we can buy through this pipe for consumption in the coming winter, is worth $ 2 billion at current prices. And Naftogaz today does not have that kind of money to buy this gas,” he explained.
The head of Naftogaz said that the special fund created for the import of gas is still empty.
“Then everything depends on how effective the IMF mission is… and, perhaps, there will be an important donor conference with the Germans at the end of October. After that, it will be possible to say how big the chances are ( of filling the fund) is,” said Vitrenko.
He emphasized the importance of opening the Baltic Pipe for Ukraine.
“It is good that such an additional option has appeared to receive certain non-Russian gas for Ukraine, and we will use it when there is an opportunity,” Vitrenko assured.
It should be noted that today Ukraine’s gas reserves are about 14 billion cubic meters. At the beginning of the heating season, they plan to pump another billion cubic meters. Naftogaz said that these reserves will be enough for the winter.
