diesel reached its highest level for the year after rising by about 6%, according to a recent Macroconsult report with data from the Energy and Mining Investment Supervision Agency (Osynergmin).
The price of this top-selling automotive fuel in the Peruvian market rose to S$17.8 per gallon. But why this growth?
Diego Rosales, economist macroconsultclarifies that this increase occurs after the expiration of the period that diesel fuel had in the fuel price stabilization fund.
“This is mainly due to the fact that the executive branch several months ago, in order to meet the requirements of carriers, agreed to freeze diesel fuel in the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund for two months, and this period ended last Thursday. The last Thursday of every month the fund bands are updated and on Thursday they were updated with an increase close to 6% and that is what you can see at the service station and faucet level,” he told RPP.
The Macroconsult specialist claims that this growth will probably not be noticeable in the near future. inflation August as this month comes to an end, but this will be seen in the September report.
Osinergmin’s “Facilito” page currently states that taps in metropolitan Lima have fuel prices ranging from SGD15.79 to SGD20.99 per gallon.
Just last Friday, it was also reported that the state oil company Petroperú had raised the wholesale price of diesel fuel by 7.6% to S/17.15 per gallon.
Diesel will continue to grow
Rosales points out that if diesel fuel price remains at the same level as today, most likely at the end of September we will see a new increase in the price of diesel fuel at gas stations by 1 s/l per gallon.
“Because the bottom has been frozen for the past few months, the strip should catch up and catch up with diesel today. This band refresh last Thursday is not enough to catch up with international diesel prices, new growth close to S/1, 6% or 7% is needed for the group to go international,” he argues.
It is worth noting that diesel is mainly used in the field of logistics, for transport food and goods from one region to another, as well as for the transport of passengers.
