The export capacities of the agricultural and metallurgical sector are comparable – Federation

Ukraine can monthly receive from the export of metal and ore by sea more money than the supply of grain.

The opening of ports for the export of metal and ore will give Ukraine more than 500 million dollars a month and help overcome the crisis in the mining and metallurgical complex. This was said by the head of the Federation of Metallurgists of Ukraine Serhiy Belenky.

He recalled that due to logistical problems, metallurgical plants reduced production by 84%, and mining and processing plants – by 75%.

“We predict that this situation will continue and worsen if nothing is done. Unblocking the ports is a very good idea. Before the war, more than 60% of the products of the mining and metallurgical complex were exported to through ports,” Belenky said.

According to him, metallurgists can give money as expected from agricultural exports – that is, more than $600 million a month.

“If we had Mariupol, we could talk about a billion. But at the moment we do not know the state of the metallurgical enterprises that remained there. It is known that Azovstal received massive damage. As for the plant of Ilyich, there is no information at all “Therefore, agro-industrial and mining and metallurgical complexes can provide a comparable amount of foreign exchange earnings. But for this it is necessary to unblock the sea ports and take measures of state support,” Belenky insisted.

Earlier, the Ministry of Economy reported that Ukraine called for the “grain agreement” to be extended to include Ukrainian metals.

Russia has said it is agreeing to expand a “grain corridor” for the export of metals from Ukraine in exchange for the lifting of Western sanctions against its metallurgy.
