This month, electricity tariffs in the National Integrated Electricity System (SEIN) will rise again, which will once again affect economy families.

According to Osinergmin, as of August 4, electricity prices for industrial and commercial consumers are growing by 3.38%, and for residential consumers, that is, households – by 2.2%.

With this increase, for eight months in a row, there has been an increase electricity tariffsand even this time will record the highest growth this year.

But why are electricity prices rising this month? Osinergmin told the newspaper “Gestion” that such an adjustment in the exchange rate is associated with changes in macroeconomic indicators, in particular the exchange rate and inflation.

Only until the end of July is it known that the exchange rate rose by 2.48%, while Wholesale Price Index (WPI) increased by 1.96% compared to the previous month.

The appreciation of the dollar alone represented 63% of the variation, while the IPM affected 36% of new rates.

According to the consulting company Enerkory, in metropolitan Lima, growth electricity tariffs this month will be higher than the national average.

Enerkory’s calculations show that Peruvians living in Lima could see a 3.39% increase in their electricity bills this month.

So far this year, tariffs for users domestic has already grown by 6.07%, and for industrial and commercial up to 9.3%.
