Ukrzaliznitsa is a monopolist, so talking to her is “highly complex”, Alexander Vodovzov said.
An increase in transportation tariffs initiated by Ukrzaliznya could lead to a stop of another mining and plant processing (GOK) in Ukraine. It was said by the head of the office of general director of Metinvest Group Alexander Vodovodov, the company’s press service said.
He recalled that metinvest was the largest private company in Ukraine, and its main counterpart was Ukrzaliznytsia. This company is a monopolist, so talking to it is “very difficult.”
According to Alexander Vodovoz, “the profile ministry, unfortunately, does not act as an arbiter Between the monopolist and state business, which really supports the position of Ukrzaliznytsia.”
“Why don’t you increase tariffs? Because you have to understand the consequences. Increase targets-it’s stopping the work of another Gok. You raise targets-we can’t give one of the world’s markets because of the cost of logistics. We need to reduce production. Everything is fair,” said the water carrier.
He noted that in war conditions, for mining businesses and metallic industries (GMC), we are no longer about developing, but about survival, and therefore state policy should be balanced and strategically.
Earlier in metinvest they appreciated the Ukrzaliznytsia initiative to “harmonize” tariffs for shipment transportation. The company explained why these tariffs cannot be united.
Remember that 2025 Ukrzaliznytsia was completed in a year with a loss of 4.2 billion hryvnias, although its income grew +11% and costs 102.9 billion hryvnias – the largest value among transportation companies in Ukraine.
