24% microentrepreneurs According to a study by the BBVA Microfinance Foundation (Fmbbva), out of five Latin American countries live in conditions of multidimensional poverty.
“The people we serve in these five countries they have to take on the case out of necessity, they have no other way to make a living,” Javier Flores, director of the BBVA Microfinance Fund, told Efe.
A study taking into account Panama, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Peru and Chile found that microentrepreneurs have more disadvantages in education, sanitation and access to water.
Peru and the Dominican Republic are the two countries with the highest concentration of multidimensional poverty, according to a report prepared by Microserfin, a division of the BBVA Microfinance Fund.
“The results are interesting, but we need to think about how we can work with these other parts. This is a call to invite us together to make a change and transform the client,” explained Stephanie Garcia, who is responsible for the study.
The study also shows that 18% of those surveyed have shortcomings in terms of the number of years of education, 14% have problems with sanitation and 12% have difficulty accessing water, and 39% have not covered their minimum medical needs.
Finally, the numbers also warn that 19% people appreciated life in a house without Internet access.
