This month, US President Administration Donald Trump has allowed Nvidia to continue H20 (GPU) graphic processors in China.

The Nvidia Company placed an order for 300,000 H20 chips in Taiwan TSMC last week due to high demand from China, forcing the American company to change its decision and not rely solely on the available reserves. Reuters reported this reference to resources.

It was mentioned that this month, US president Donald Trump allowed NVIDIA to continue the sales of H20 (GPU) graphic processors in China, who canceled the actual ban that was introduced in April, aimed at maintaining advanced AI chips from the Chinese hands for fear of national security.

Nvidia developed the H20 chip specifically for the Chinese market after the United States introduced exports restrictions on other AI chips by the end of 2023. The H20 chip had lower computing strength compared to H100 from Nvidia or the new Blackwell series, which sold in markets outside China.

It has been reported that new TSMC orders will add 600,000-700,000 H20 chips to existing reserves.

For the comparison, Nvidia sold about 1 million H20 chips in 2024, according to the American Research Company Semianalysis.

According to NVIDIA Director General Jensen Huang, the level of orders for the H20 will determine if the labor will be launched again. He added that any continuation of the supplies will last for nine months.

After Hangi’s journey to Beijing this month, information reported that Nvidia was aware of its customers that the company had limited H20 reserves and that there were no immediate plans to continue making chips.

NVIDIA needs to obtain export licenses from the US government to supply H20 chips. In the middle of July, the company said it received certainty from the authorities, that these licenses would be issued in the near future.

According to resources, the United States department of goods has not yet approved these licenses.

Nvidia refused to comment on new orders or the status of its applications for a license. The TSMC also refused to comment on the situation. The U.S. Department of Community did not respond to a request for comments.

According to resources, Nvidia asked Chinese companies who wanted to buy H20 chips, submit a new documentation, including forecasts of customer orders.

Keep in mind that Nvidia faces restrictions on the supply of single AI chips that are allowed to export according to new US policies in China. Prohibition on the US government to sell H20 chips, introduced in April, forced Nvidia to cancel customer orders and cancel production capacities.

Earlier it was Nvidia’s plan to launch a new chip of artificial intelligence for China at a significant lower price than the H20 model prohibited in April.
