Bulgaria will meet the Euro from January 1, 2026 following the EU Council adoption of three legal actions.
The Euro Group – the Association of Minister of Finance of Eurozone countries – supports the recommendation to move to Bulgaria to the Euro. This was announced by the European Council website, referring to the words of European team leader Pascal Donohee.
According to him, ministers joined a positive assessment issued by the European Commission and European Central Bank in their reports on the scene regarding the implementation of the standard for joining the eurozone. The recommendation recommends that Bulgaria introduce Euro from January 1, 2026.
The recommendation should be adopted by the EU Council for Economics and Finance (ECOFIN) at a meeting on June 20. Plus, the EU Council approved the ECOFIN letter to the European Council, and the European Council, for its part, will issue this issue for approval at its June 26-27 meeting meeting.
The process will end in July with the adoption of the three legal actions of the EU Council – after consultations with the European Parliament and the European Central Bank.
These are the works that will allow Bulgaria to become a 21 -member Eurozone member from January 1, 2026.
