The sale of cars in Russia fell 27.5% in the annual terms, up to 98.3 thousand units. This was announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation with a reference to data registering new cars.
Passenger cars sell 90.7 thousand, which is 28% less than May 2024.
It is also noted that the fall was accelerated. In April, the fall of sales cars was 26% in the annual terms, the same thing that happened at the end of five months.

“The situation is worse than in April, and worse than last year – they didn’t think it was so bad,” said the dealership manager, who sells Chinese brands.
According to the vehicle analyst, more than half of the sellers reported that things in 2025 were worse than last year. Only in 15% of the aforementioned resurrection.
In dealerships, they said customers do not spend money, keep it in deposits or buy cheap dollars – waiting for ruble downfall and course income. As usual, cars are only purchased in discounts.
Accordingly, the Russian Federation’s industry and trade ministry adds that sales of Russian cars (in particular trucks and buses) are not very fast: 57.6 thousand sold in May, 15% less a year ago. However, even an official refusal negatively affects the Russian auto industry: according to the central bank of the Russian Federation, loading capacities in the first quarter has refused a minimum since the beginning of 2023.
As reported, Chinese automakers have offered Russian customers huge discounts and “squeeze” Avtovaz from the market. Thanks to Russia, China in 2023 became the world’s largest exporter of cars.
