The Bank of Georgia, the largest bank in the country, is limited to buying expensive items for Russian citizens. According to new policies, Russians cannot calculate bank cards for goods over 300 euros.
The institution explained that it was acting in accordance with international penalties that prohibit the export of expensive items in Russia. The restriction is automatically introduced-operation is blocked by the seller’s MCC code.
The bank also clarified: if the Russian client changed his residence, he should report it separately.
This is the first time the financial institution directly introduces control over the compliance of penalties. Prior to this, the Russians had already found denials when trying to buy luxurious objects in the EU or the UAE, but such incidents were united.
