The European Union is preparing retaliation measures, which the head of the European Commission Ursula Von der Layen has assured.
Tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump “seriously hit the global economy.” The European Union is preparing steps in response. This is stated in a statement by European Commission chairman Ursula Von der Lyain, published on the EC website.
“President Trump’s announcement of universal tariffs for the whole world, including the EU, is a serious blow to the world economy. I am very sorry about this choice. Be openly with a relatively massive consequence. The world’s economy will suffer a lot.
He added that “tariffs will also be with consumers around the world,” and it “is noticeable immediately.”
“Millions of citizens will deal with higher products for products. Medicines are worth more, as well as transportation. Inflation will climb. And this will be especially impact on the most vulnerable segments of the population. The whole business – big and small – will suffer from the first day,” the European Commission president.
He added that he agreed with Trump that other states were unfairly used by the world’s trade rules, and ready to support efforts to change them, but emphasized that using tariffs would not solve the problem.
According to him, “Europeans will always advance and protect their interests and values … and we will always defend Europe. But there is an alternative path. It is never too late to solve problems through negotiations,” which has given Von der Layyn.
Remember that on Wednesday, April 2, Trump announced the introduction of major duties to imported goods. He called it America’s “Day of Liberation”.
