The largest Russian gas buyer in Europe is France, Spain and Belgium – they cost 85% of LNG imports from the Russian Federation.
Importing liquid natural gas (LNG) from Russia to EU countries last year grew 18%. From January to November the Russian Federation received at least 6.3 billion euros for it. This has been proven by the data of the American Institute of Energy and Financial Analysis (IEEFA).
At the same time, the volume of LNG supply from the USA, Qatar and Algeria to the EU last year was reduced.
It is noted that France, Spain and Belgium remain the largest buyer of Russian gas in Europe – they account for 85% of LNG imports from the Russian Federation. Among European terminals that take Russian gas, the largest volume fell into the French Dunkirke. Last year, he received 27% of the total number of fuel supplies from Russia to Europe.
As you know, France will sell part of the LNG purchased from Russia. It is registered, that is, it will be returned from the liquid to a gas state, and then transmitted through the pipelines in third countries, for example in Germany. At the same time, German authorities ordered state operators of terminals not to accept gas from Russia.
According to IEEFA, Russian LNG is a third of the general imports of liquid fuel in France. Among the large LNG suppliers in Europe, another third delivery fell to the United States and 17% – in Algeria.
Russian LNG’s increase in France was observed a year before. In 2023, the country, along with Spain and Belgium, costs 80% of total gas supplies from the Russian Federation to Europe.
The EU did not introduce the ban on the Russian lng supply. Fuel penalties from Russia have been introduced by the United States, which also exports LNG to Europe.
Earlier it was reported that the European Union had decided by 2027 to completely abandon Russia’s gas. Starting this year, the delivery will start at a promising Black Sea Field in Romania, the operator of which has signed the first contract in Germany.
