Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported that the agricultural sector showed an increase of 7.4% in May compared to the same month in 2021.
The said increase was driven by the increase in the production of the agricultural sub-sector, which grew by 9.8%, and the livestock sub-sector, which registered an increase of 1.7%.

These are the regions with the highest agricultural production.

Meanwhile, livestock production increased by 1.7% in May compared to the same month of the previous year. This result was mainly due to higher production: chicken which increased by 2.4% (higher placement of bb chickens in Lima, Arequipa and La Libertad), pork + 5.0% (higher production in Lima and La Libertad), beef + 0.9% (higher production in Cusco, Arequipa and Puno) and chicken eggs +0.7% (higher production in La Libertad and Ica).
Growth recorded from the first five months
Between January and May of the current year The agricultural sector grew by 4.9% year-on-year, driven by the growth of the agricultural sub-sector (6.3%) and the livestock sub-sector (2.4%).
Meanwhile, the agricultural sub-sector grew by 6.3% due to an increase in blueberry production, which rose by 109%, with La freedomlime and Lambayeque as the most productive regions.

Grape production also increased by 12.7% due to the regions of Ica, Lima and Piura, olives +11.0% (favorable agro-climatic conditions in Tacna and Arequipa); hard yellow corn +9.5% (large planting and harvesting areas in Ica, San Martin and Piura); potatoes +8.3% (large area harvested in Ayacucho, Cusco and Huancavelica), among others.
Meanwhile, the livestock sub-sector during this period had an increase of 2.4%. This result was mainly due to higher production: chicken +3.6% (more chicken placement from the meat line in Lima, Arequipa and La Libertad), pork +4.0% (more removal in Lima, . La Libertad and Ica), raw cow meat milk +1.0% (more cows in production in Cusco, La Libertad and Puno) and eggs +0.8% (more laying hens in La Libertad, Ica and San Martin).
